What is the difference between GGD fixed-type switchgear and draw-out switchgear such as MNS/GCK?

The core differences lie in structural design, maintainability, cost and applicable scenarios, and the choice should be based on power supply continuity requirements and production process characteristics.

  • Structural design difference
GGD switchgear adopts an 8MF steel frame with all components fixed-mounted directly on busbars and mounting plates. The internal circuit structure is fixed and cannot be pulled out. Draw-out switchgear (MNS, GCK) adopts a modular drawer design: each feeder circuit is an independent functional unit that can be pulled out and pushed in, with unified mechanical and electrical interfaces.
  • Maintainability & downtime difference
When a circuit fault occurs in a GGD cabinet, the corresponding section of busbar must be powered off for inspection and repair, which takes hours and affects all loads on the same bus. For draw-out switchgear, the faulty drawer unit can be directly pulled out and replaced with a spare unit within minutes, without powering off the main busbar. This greatly shortens downtime and is essential for continuous production lines.
  • Reliability & cost difference
GGD has fewer structural parts and fixed hard-wired connections, with lower contact resistance and higher operational reliability. Its procurement cost is 15%–30% lower than draw-out switchgear of the same capacity. Draw-out switchgear has a more complex structure and higher manufacturing cost, but offers far greater flexibility.
  • Typical application scenarios
    • Choose GGD for: infrastructure power distribution, general industrial workshops, stable production processes, backup power systems and projects with tight budgets.
    • Choose draw-out switchgear for: automotive production lines, electronics manufacturing, food & beverage processing and other scenarios with frequent process adjustments and high requirements for uninterrupted power supply.

Both types comply with IEC 60439-1 standards, and we support full customization of circuit quantity, component brands and protection grades.

Both reduce motor starting impact, but they have completely different working principles, functions and application scenarios. Working principle difference Soft starter: Adopts thyristor phase-controlled voltage regulation technology. It gradually increases the output voltage during startup until the motor reaches rated speed, then switches to bypass contactor for direct grid operation.

The choice mainly depends on construction schedule, land cost, capacity demand and project nature.
